Some months ago we've found that YuukaKazami took part in contests using one more account. We've contacted him and he pleaded guilty and deplored about it. That acccount has been banned and YuukaKazami was disallowed to take part in rounds for two months.

Now he can take part and we hope to see him again in standings.

I have two questions here.

  1. Should admins announce these things publicly or not? There has been a quite a debate on various platforms regarding sending the names of suspected cheaters or wrong doers directly to admins so as to avoid naming/ insulting some innocent person.

  2. Why MikeMirzayanov need to post this message, I feel that there would have been more people with situation similar to YuukaKazami, Do the admins post their case on public platform too ?

So this raises these two very important points.

  1. Why do admins post his case of cheating in public?

  2. If the motive of the post was to ensure that YuukaKazami takes part in the upcoming contests, Then why is participation of YuukaKazami more important for codeforces than any other user with similar situation. According to my point 2, they should give such announcement for each and every banned people.

PS.

  1. I have not even a slight intention in insulting anybody, If my comment somehow harms/ insults anybody (especially YuukaKazami and MikeMirzayanov), then I offer my deepest apologies for that.

  2. Post is based on premise that YuukaKazami is not the only person being accused of using multiple account. If he is the only such person, they I am really sorry and I will edit the comment accordingly and my deepest apologies to entire community.

I think the answer is clear because YuukaKazami is YuukaKazami
YuukaKazami is not a normal contestant YuukaKazami is 7 rank on CodeForces and now he is target at TopCoder so No chance to compare him with other banned people.
After my reply I'm totally with you YuukaKazami make a wrong thing and admin have to Justice between all contestants .

We do not have resources to publish detailed information of each cheating/violation case. I prefer to spend my time adding features to Codeforces and communication with companies about new contests and championships.

We reserve the right to publish information about any cheating. This case was discussed in comments and silence can be treated as no actions from Codeforces side. YuukaKazami is not a regular user, also he did right things after we've found violation.

I hope this story prevents somebody to make a wrong move.

Yes, I agree with the point that he has achieved a lot in programming. When one uses a phrase "regular" user, it can either imply a user with frequent participation on the site whereas non-regular being opposite of that. This is why I asked Mike about clarification in the meaning of "regular". I don't know/ understand the reason of my post getting so many minuses.

Here is my final take home thing from all the discussion. Ideally for an admin, there should not be any difference between users with high ratings and low ratings. Rules should not be different for some specific users.

But here in this situation, as Mike said that he wanted to make an example out of this so that it might deter people in the future from doing these kind of things. I agree with his position. This is why, I did not pursue the debate forth from that.

To be true, I really dont understand the reason of some of the posts/ comments getting negative votes.

When someone tries to help and in the attempt, he makes something wrong, people bombard him with down-votes which deters him in further participation in interaction/ commenting.

Other issue, public appearance of a person. When a red coder wishes something, it gets a lot of positive votes. I dont have anything against that, but when the similar types of comments are done by low rated coders, it gets huge amount of negative votes. Though nothing much can be done about it, I would request users to be more rational regarding these things.

I guess the only motivation for him to do that is ...

        to play cute!

        Just kidding. :)

What I know is that using a lower rating account to play games is very popular in China, not limited to Codeforces or Topcoder, but in all kind of games. (Starcraft II, Go, and anything you can image.)

Using one more account participate in contest is not good. But I think use the high rating account participate contest would have more pressure and would frustrated if can't get high rank in the contest. And I understand why he do that :)

What is the reason the only div2 contests? -I think those doesn't conatains as hard as tasks as usual div1 contest D,E. But what is the reason those contests cannot be rated? (Maybe shorter contest time etc..)

Rev. 2   Проголосовать: нравится +4 Проголосовать: не нравится

It is because of the rating system. See this : the sum of all user's rating (except first time of participation) remains unchanged. So if div.1 contestants could take part in div.2 only contests officially, they would dominate the leaderboard and most of the rating would go to theirs.

Take Good Bye 2013 for example. I did very bad in this contest : only solved A,B,C and failed system test for D (if this were a regular div.1 contest, I would have solved only problem A ...) However my rating increased to 1900 unexpectedly and when I logged in the next day I saw my handle become yellow surprisingly.

However I think this problem usually occurs only for purple colors users (they can't do well in div.1 difficulty but they have to take div.1, and div.2 hard problems are still a bit of challenging for them.) So my idea is to create a middle division for rating 1,700 — 2,000 (probably they can't solve any div.1 only problems). And they can take part in div.2 only contests officially, but rating changes should be adjusted to smaller scale. Where for contests in both divisions they still have to compete in div.1 group.

So if div.1 contestants could take part in div.2 only contests officially, they will dominate the leaderboard and most of the rating would go to theirs.

But contest could be still held in two separate divisions, with calculating rating separately for them (I hope it is the normal way in normal Div1 and Div2 contests) — Div1 users' rating is changed basing on results of other Div1 users only etc...

That will lead to a speed competition for div.1 users(grandmaster level participants can solve most of the most div.2 problems in first glance...) It is not what we want as a programming contest. There should be some difficulty.

They could be rated for Div1 even with the same time limits. It does not matter as long as all Div1 contestants are under the same conditions. Rating difference only shows how well one competitor does against the others — and is only affected by his relative success.

So I think there is some other reason. Either simply technical or I do not know what.

Thank for forgiving me and give me a second chance :)...

Well, I am very sorry for using multi-account, maybe just as cgy4ever said, In China if you're playing a online game or something, it is very common to make a multi-account(In some online game I have 4 or more account), and I didn't read Codeforces rules very carefully.

Umm, the intention for creating my multi-account is simply that I like that character >_> ... I think it is cool to win a Codeforces round under the name of my favorite character...

Now I know that I was dong the wrong thing, multi-account will cause troubles in CF rating systems and confuse others, so maybe I am a good negative example, others please don't do that things again :).
