Hello Codeforces,

I have an issue when solving problems. If I don't come up with a solution idea within 15 to 30 minutes, I quickly lose interest and don't try to continue or brainstorm at all, and I end up closing the problem. The problem is that my brain is unable to learn new ideas. I mean, even when I try to read the editorial for the solution and find the idea new, I tend to ignore the problem and don't solve it.

This issue started to appear when I began tackling problems with ratings of 1600 and 1500.

Any tips or advice?

This message was too harsh and should be disregarded on the topic of tips or advice. My revised message is more suited to answer the question above.

This is an extremely cruel and narrow-minded perspective, especially coming from a person higher rated than you by a massive 2 rating. If you wish to code, go for it! Perhaps you can decrease the difficulty of your practice, and build up to a certain level. Do note — improving isn't supposed to be easy. If you can't meet your supposed expectations, there is no shame in solving easier problems if the harder ones are not productive.

I'm not forcing him to quit coding. I'm just living off of what I believe in: “人生就像射箭,梦想就像箭靶子,如果连箭靶子也找不到的话,你每天拉弓有什么意义?”. The essence of this quote is that you shouldn't live life without having a goal or dream. And to be honest, there's not that many tips you can give someone if they simply don't want to do something.

"The problem is that my brain is unable to learn new ideas" — I believe that this doesn't necessarily mean that your brain is "unable to" learn, it's just that your brain doesn't find the task at hand interesting enough. Therefore, I believe that you could potentially try to find another new hobby that you find interesting.

And I emphasize strongly once again: I'm not telling you how to live your life :) Sorry if the first message was a bit harsh.

As a side note, I applaud pathetique for starting to post beneficial comments after hitting -80

just like a gym buddy try to get a cp buddy

a person having similar intrest, goals and skill like you in cp. Engage with that person in problem discussion, contest discussion (after it is over), some playful but competitive contest (virtual contest or mashups). This will boost your intrest in it and will solve your problem

This, in my opinion, depends heavily on each individual's personality. When I read a hard problem and couldn't solve it, I will first find for solution if it is provided. And if that editorial still makes me stuck (or possibly I couldn't find any editorial), and I will try to enqueue this problem in my mind, then I returned in a couple of weeks. This strategy works well for 2 years now.

If you lose interest to CP, then just leave it. No one could force you to continue. Maybe after months, you could want to return and regain your ambition.

I didn't lose interest to CP. I mean I still enjoy solving problems that are very close to my rating and joing contests, but I just can't improve my level and solve more difficult problems.

I just can't improve my level and solve more difficult problems

Then return to what you said recently in the blog

I mean, even when I try to read the editorial for the solution and find the idea new, I tend to ignore the problem and don't solve it.

Don't take the fact that you can't improve as an accuse for ignoring solving those hard problems. It must be: only when you try hard to solve those hard problems then you could improve.
