Well, 1 participant made up almost half of their total scores and he wasnt affected so.... understandable

Should you not adjust for number of participants? Not all delegations have four contestants. Average seems more appropriate than sum.
In that case I think it would be better to take maximum because for example taking average means China can get a better score by sending only Kangyang.
