Isn't it a bit risky to hold onsite in Iran right now ?

It will be in a few months, so I think we have enough time to see if the war escalates and reaches Iran, or not.

We successfully hosted IOI 2017 a few years ago and IPHO 2024 a few months ago. You can ask people who came to Iran about safety.

I asked one and he says it's not safe.

Update: The second one says it's safe because he came back alive.

rayan.global states that:

Top 60 contestants, at most 3 from each country, will advance to the final

Arpa, can you please elaborate on what country here means (origin/residence/citizenship) or provide a link to the formal rules?

We mean the country of citizenship. If it differs from what is stated in your Codeforces profile, we'll use the country indicated on the passport you will present for traveling to the onsite contest.

Is the only means of verification for citizenship a valid passport? Is it permitted to use, for example, an official citizenship certificate?

(One scenario I'm envisioning is someone who is a dual citizen who may wish to compete representing a country but may have trouble traveling on that country's passport to Iran.)

Arpa, can you confirm that country of passport is the only means for verifying country, or indicate how else we can ask these questions? The selection contest is upcoming soon and people may need time to get/renew passports in accordance with the rules.

In the website it's is said that "The top-performing teams from the second rounds will be invited to compete in the onsite World Final". So is it a team contest? In that case, how big can teams be and what restrictions apply to forming a team?

It's an individual contest. There was a typo in that post which is now fixed. Thanks for pointing it out.

My government strongly recommends not visting Iran on their official site (Google translate is pretty accurate). It also states:

In the event of a long-term arrest, make arrangements for family law matters (e.g. custody of your children or looking after relatives in need of care) and, if necessary, grant powers of attorney to handle your private and professional obligations on your behalf.

Is there maybe a way to particpate not onsite or at a different location?

Are you sure that you will be able to be in top-60 (even modulo the condition of max 3 participants form the country)? If not, then what’s the point to worry beforehand?

Also, based on your profile information you’re from Germany — no surprise that recommendations of your government are like that. I’m afraid to ask what are the recommendations in regards to the trips to Russia.

But jokes aside, do you seriously believe to what’s written in the media and on your government’s website? Come on dude, don’t be so naive!

It is definitely not possible if you don't even try. What was the point of asking questions if you didn't even participate?
