Why doesn't Mike switch to React so this website looks better? Imagine making a programming website with bad programming.

React != Good looking website. The website's ui is fine imo, and I'd rather have this ui than have a really pretty UI but have page loads be 10x longer cause of all the extra data to load

    It already takes 3 years to load and the website is down half the time

You think that, then you get mad the site takes too long to load during a contest. React increases server side computational cost. During contest (specially at the very start) there can be up to 10k concurrent users. It is best to stay ugly and fast than beautiful and then it takes an entire minute for A to load.

That said they should strongly consider dark mode LOL

      It has to run JavaScript on the server, which adds overhead compared to barebone approaches like using C (that said I have no idea what they use for codeforces). Maybe they could add front end as lambda functions on the cloud and leave all the logic behind a fast backend, but maybe this approach would increase the cost of the website a lot, which is kept through donations

who cares about good looking website ? i only care about how fast it loads/site being able to handle traffic
