We are thrilled to announce the Lyft Level 5 Challenge hosted by Codeforces and sponsored by Lyft. This international competition consists of two, timed rounds, where competitors will solve multiple algorithmic puzzles much like the ones we’re solving at Level 5, Lyft’s self-driving division.
Round 1: Elimination
On Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 10:00 PDT, the competition kicks off with a standard two-hour round of seven problems. The top 100 participants will win a Lyft Level 5 Challenge t-shirt. The top 30 contestants located in the San Francisco Bay area will be invited to Round 2.
Round 2: Final at Level 5
On Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 10:00 PST, round 2 kicks off with a standard two-hour round of five problems. Up to 30 contestants will compete for prizes at the Level 5 Engineering Center in Palo Alto, California, and Codeforces will host a parallel round for offsite participants. After the challenge, stick around for a Level 5 team social.
Round 2 Prizes
- First place: $2000
- Second place: $1000
- Third place: $500
Terms and conditions apply.
About Level 5
Level 5 is Lyft’s self-driving division based in Palo Alto, California, and Munich, Germany, where we’re building a full self-driving system. Engineers at Level 5 are equipping vehicles with the latest advancements in sensors and applying deep learning to predict and perceive the world around us. We’re leveraging route by route data from the 10 million Lyft rides completed weekly to both rapidly advance our technology and train our vehicles.
Every member of our fast-moving, collaborative team has the opportunity to have an outsized influence on our self-driving development. And we’re passionate problem solvers, too. Meet Vladimir Iglovikov [kaggle], Viktor Barinov [cf, tc], and Alex Lapin [kaggle, cf, tc].
Help define the future of self-driving technology with us at Level 5. See our open roles at lyft.com/level5, and follow us on Twitter @LyftLevel5.
What is Lyft?
Lyft is the fastest growing ridesharing company in the United States with coverage for over 95% of Americans in all 50 states. We’re working toward our mission of improving people’s lives with the world’s best transportation.
I couldn't actually find it in the post, so......
Is it rated?
yes, it will be rated
timeanddate links are pointing to wrong dates :)
Also, October 7th is not a Saturday. It's a Sunday
thanks! fixed.
Hey, I am red on codeforces, Asking this from fake account. Can you tell us what if I am in top 20 and not in USA, Any chances to get interviewed by lyft by making it in top 20 in round 1?
Why would you create a fake account to ask this question? Isn't that easier to ask from your real account to show that you're indeed red?
By the way, I'm pretty sure that you can get interviewed by Lyft even without taking part in their contest by just clicking a button "Join the team" on their website — https://www.lyft.com/self-driving-vehicles/engineers.
Fake account? Aha! This account will be banned! Congratulations!
elmination round will hold in CF ?
Not gonna lie I was thinking this Level 5 is the one that created Professor Layton series (plus it mentioned "puzzle" on the blogpost so I was convinced XD).
Looking forward to the competition tho.
We need rounds sponsored by game developers with games collector's editions as prizes.
Hell yeah gimme dat Minesweeper collector's edition
We once had CD Projekt RED sponsoring our acm subregionals, and there was a copy of Witcher for the first AC for every problem. Since then, we often say "witcher" with meaning "first AC for a problem". I guess it might also be called a golden submission/balloon.
That's so cool!
So, have you played The Witcher?)
That sponsorship happened before I was in uni, so I can't say I won a copy on a contest :(
I've read all the books many years ago (also some non-witcher books by Sapkowski), and played the first game when it came out. I think many people from Poland can say that. Btw. right now I'm half through the new book (Season of Storms). All books from the series have very good story, but the way of writing is the best I've ever seen.
And ofc. the Witcher 3 is incredibly popular. I played it (including expansions) and I wish I could forget it and play again. I strongly recommend for those who have read the books, and maybe to others too.
Only Bay Area contestants can advance to round 2? What about other parts of the US?
We invite top-30 participants who don't need sponsored travel to our location. If you get good score in round-1, want to be invited to onsite, and can manage travel costs, don't hesitate to send a personal message and we'll definitely consider you when processing scoreboard.
For those who don't get into onsite we will have parallel round, but unfortunately there will be no prizes.
It is not clear how you will distinguish local from not local participants (there was no option during registration).
Could you give an idea of what can be considered as a "good score"?
Is it possible to amend the terms and conditions to include clauses similar to what is posted here https://codeforces.net/blog/entry/4088 (at the bottom) regarding Intellectual property rights? Some companies do not allow their employees to participate in competitions that do not explicitly state that contestants retain IP rights to submissions.

I can't decide what to do
One of my friends used my account and posted this. I 'm very sorry for that.
I'm sorry for my harsh answer, I didn't know that.
That can't be your friend. A friend will not post such a repulsive joke. A classmate I guess?
I have to point out that you have a VERY AGGRESSIVE avatar. No matter who "ypy" and "dyf" is, It is very impolite to draw a piece of green shit on other's head and write other's name on the avatar. DO NOT use this. Change it as fast as you can! And the comment is awful. It seems like someone that uses your account illegally and change your avatar, and post that piece of bloody comment.
Contest will be rated (div. 1 + div. 2) or unrated ?
Rated
Is the contest two hours? The contest page says 2:30.
Yes, the duration of the contest is two hours. We fixed it.
Can Indian students also apply for internship?
If you can get to the Lyft office at Palo Alto or Munich maybe...
