Why is APIO named APIO and not APOI?

APIO=Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad
I think that IOI is the one that is out of the ordinary here. Look at any other science olympiad: IMO, IPhO, IChO, IBO, IPO, IAO, etc. It's not actually that wrong, International Olympiad in Informatics and International Informatics Olympiad are the same thing, except that IIO doesn't (phonetically) sound good, hence IOI.
But why didn't APIO follow the pattern of OI contests (To end with OI)?
Every OI I know ends with OI except APIO.
Original name of "COI" (Croatian Olympiad in Informatics) is also "HIO".
Shouldn't other OIs follow the IOI naming (Olympiad in Informatics)? Our country changed the name from "Bangladesh Informatics Olympiad" to "Bangladesh Olympiad in Informatics" a couple years ago. :3
So is IOL (Linguistics). This is more strange, because the unshortened name is International Linguistics Olympiad.
