Purpose of Codeforces

Hi all, I am new to this website.However I would like to ask what is the purpose of competitive programming websites Codeforces, codechef, Atcoder.Why they organises contests,how the expenses of the websites are maintainted. What codeforces team gets in return of all this.

It is not about personal benefit. It is about mutual benefit (everyone gets to do what they love to do).

Donations (at least in the case of CF).

Er... For programming competitions (for people who enjoy them).

    I don't really think that donations are more than 10% of CF budget. I think most money comes from IT-companies sponsoring the site. Telegram is in the logo, I think Botan Investment does some sponsorship. Maybe companies who provide rounds/cups on CF (mail.ru, VK, Avito, 8VC etc.) pay more than for one round.

What about Atcoder ? How rng_58 is able to maintain cost of servers , problem -setting ?
