This has been discussed many times, but nobody knows how it is calculated. But here are some facts:
Also, there are some accounts with negative contribution but seemingly not enough content to get that. They did not get their negative contribution randomly or anything like that, they have low-rated comments or blogs that have been deleted or hidden. Examples: Ali-Kemal, finneganpierson.
but nobody knows
May be headquaters know !!
It was once posted somewhere by Mike that contribution of comment/blog to your contribution is divided by 2^(floor(how old it is divided by 6 months)). That's why we can see sudden big drops in contribution if our highly upvoted blog becomes exactly 6 months old.
By the way, it is exponentially hard to get contribution points. Getting +100 contribution can be done by probably one highly upvoted blog, but +150 and +180 are another stories...
So that is why maximum contribution is only ~ +200?
People can delete their blogs. But votes received on the blogs till that point are already added in contribution. Moreover, for obvious reasons people are more likely to delete blogs with negative votes.
If you edit or delete your blogs or comments, the contribution might get lower.
its random
The few initial votes for a comment or blog are not shown. But they are included in contribution. Maybe this is the reason. The reason for not showing is most people follow the initial trend of downvote or upvote, leading to ...
Only initial negative votes (till 5) are not shown, any number of positive votes are shown instantly.
Therefore, the number of those who voted and their votes were not counted may be greater than those whose votes were calculated.
Source on these?
vintage_Vlad_Makeev told me about it. He himself can bring up to 10 points to a blog (It was tested using private blogposts). It also adds gradually, that's why you can't see instant additions.
I know that the score of a comment depends on the rating of the voter. But they made it sound like there's some additional consideration when calculating the contribution.
Also, this: "voting in the main contribution is not counted if the voter is less than a specialist" is unexplained.
