What are the benefits of being red on codeforces? I'm currently a low orange, and I'm wondering if it's worth the time and effort to work towards red if I'm honestly just doing this for college apps?

If you see only rating in codeforces, competitive programming isn't for you at all
Really? I only picked up competitive programming because I want to get a good job. I'm not going to get that by doing really well in an interview. That's going to come based off of what college you go to and what connections you make there.
Am I missing something? What other purpose is there for Competitive Programming? And the argument that "it builds problem solving skills" is pretty lame, since you could get that just as easily through research. The only difference is that the latter would actually be beneficial for others.
What other purpose is there for Competitive Programming?
For many people, it's their passion !
Main benefit: Everyone upvotes your comments for no reason
Would a college admissions officer even know what "red on codeforces" means? My guess would be almost certainly not, but if someone has inside information feel free to correct me. Seems more prudent to aim for IOI or IOI camp in your country; if you are low orange then you should probably be able to qualify for camp in more or less every country except maybe China.
LMAO def. not for USA. There are plenty of people who didn't quali this year including me
Interesting, guess I'm wrong about that. I've only met a small handful of people who made IOI camp but didn't make the IOI team, they were all orange (don't know about high/mid/low though). Out of curiosity, how many people make camp?
lol. In our country, the IOI team are all at least IGM.
Right, I figured China was ridiculously competitive given how many CF top 10 people I've seen over the years who are high schoolers.
China's got 2 LGMs in their 9th grade(as far as I know), who are djq_cpp and Rewinding Totally impossible for me to ever reach their level.
When did they even start coding ? Because reaching LGM this quickly is mind boggling !
They started in their 6th grade... Kind of incredible, ain't it?
