Should you be stuck with a problem for long hours and try to come up with a solution or should you spend a hour or so for a problem and then give up and get hints from editorial and try again? I feel guilty for seeing the editorial. (^_^)!

As long as ideas are popping in the head however lame the intuition might be , just try , if ideas exhaust see the editorial . No guilt , Do you think people solving 500,600 questions all by themselves without editorial !!?? It's obvious u can't solve each and every question you try .

You should try until you are proceeding or getting some observations. If you are not able to proceed anything for around 15-20 minutes, you should look up editorial. Read few lines of it and try again. Refer to this video : https://youtu.be/YjG739pP2Ns
It's okay if you have seen the editorial. Atleast you learnt something new, but try that whenever the same type of problem appears in the contest you should be able to solve it.

You've been doing it for one whole day and had high expectations from this single practice session? Or do you spend too much time on practice every day and this doesn't pay off? There are many blogs about how to practice and not all of them fully agree with each other. The trick is to try different things and figure out what works best for you.

Based on my experience, when you're really trying to come up with a solution, every second you've spent is not wasted. You are just improving your ability to think harder. And also, looking at editorials is okay only if you are trying to understand the reason why the solution in editorial works.

As umnik have said already, you are better not to look at the editorials.

But how do we know whether a new topic (to us) is used in the solution?

It is a problem actually. You can have a friend who has already solved this problem and ask him or her, if there is some new algo in solution.

If I have already solved a problem and I want to compare my solution with the provided by an editorial, what's wrong?

There is no guilt in seeing the editorial; if you are out of idea, you should look for the editorial; You can't think of a solution which you are unaware of and even if you solve the problem, look at the editorial after the correct submission; maybe there is a better or different approach for that question. You'll get to learn new things, and that's what matters in the long run...

All the best:)
