Now, it's 5:38 in China and I, who is chinese, who is therefore in China, still awake.

Back to 3 years ago, I, who is in my senior high, even felt guilty for sleeping after 00:00.

Back to 1 years ago, I could still go to sleep at maybe 1:00~2:00.

Back to 3 months ago, it's before 3:00.

Back to 1 months ago, before 4:00.

The day before yesterday, I stay up all ningt to review for final exam.

And, on yesterday, to my surprise, I'm not even sleepy at night and I eventually go to sleep at 6:00.

Today, it's nearly 6:00 again. The sun dazzling outside seems to remind me, saying "bro, it's not proper time for sleeping" to me.

Anyway, not stopping myself from 3:00, not stopping myself from 4:00, I have to stop myself from at least 6:00.

It's said by some research that people who is staying up late tend to be irrational and maybe that's why I wrote this weird blog post.

Here's mine. Say anything you want about staying up late.

But you gotta admit, the productivity you get at night can't match your productivity during the day. I guess it's worth spending some sleepless nights :)

One of my reason to stay awake till 6-7:00 AM is hot summers in India . Still Sometimes I stay awake in winter till 3-4 AM . :( . Many a times Coders ( Most of which are supposed to be introverts ) find peace in being alone with TV/Laptop/Phone which is easily achievable in Night.

Hii...It's 03.58 here in India!

Staying up late saves me from guilt regarding being productive...but deep in heart I know it's a trap, coz sleeping is better than doing nothing.

I remember 4 years ago my mom told me that some of her parent friends who had high schoolers said they would stay up to 2:45 am at times. I laughed at that and told myself that I'd never get time management so bad.

Now I sleep regularly around 2:30 — 4:00 am -_- it'll only become worse in college. I don't even know why I stay up sometimes tbh

My sleep cycle is also f**cked up. It's 4:47 AM in India and I am still awake. I have tried correcting my sleep schedule many times by skipping 1 night's sleep but Ah shit, here we go again.

It's normal. I am a selenophile and I enjoy night times. I have been sleeping around 4/5am for last 7/8 years, and it never did me wrong.

My whole point is, as long as it doesn't cause any harm, you may keep up late. For me, I find peace and happiness in there. And I will do what makes me happy. :")

and it never did me wrong

You will know what harm it causes when you will contract diabetes in your early 30s. Literally every person above 30 who is a night shift worker I know has diabetes/is in a high risk zone. And by your sleep schedule, you are equivalent to a night shift worker. Moreover, say goodbye to your heart health with such a prolonged fucked up sleep schedule. You will see all of this when you reach 30+. And if you have a habit of midnight snacking, you will prolly get type 2 diabetes in your late 20s.

MiceMirzayanov thanks for your concern. Interestingly enough, I'm not a night shift 'worker', and I do manage 6/7 hours of sleep in every 24 hours cycle, even though I get to bed at 5am.

Furthermore, I just realized that, unlike many other, my kidney doesn't have a brain for itself. If it had, it might just shout, "omg! it's dark outside and he ain't sleeping! no! INJUSTICE! I will just stop working right now".

Mine may just have improvised its work cycles w.r.t. sleeping at daytime and walking at night. Anyways, I respect your apprehension over MY health. Also you owe me some sweets for this sweet concern of yours. I will send you all I may buy when I catch diabetes. Untill then, cheers.

I have just googled for "night shift diabetes" keywords and found this article: https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/news/20180220/rotating-night-shifts-a-path-to-diabetes

It indeed kinda confirms the increased risk of diabetes for some people. But it also says: "However, working a permanent night shift was not linked to an increased risk of diabetes. The study authors suggested that these people might adapt to a consistent night-shift schedule, or perhaps they were "night owls" who had a natural tendency to be awake at night."

So natural "night owls" have nothing to worry about.

The opposite for me — during the school year I slept from 10PM to 4AM, now I sleep 1AM to 7AM. I used to not be able to be productive at night but I guess something's changed /shrug

The way this post has been written shows clearly that it is from a sleep deprived person! BTW I nowadays sleep at 1-2 and wake up at 7:30 as our school keeps a yoga session at 7:45 :(

It depends on your employer. Some of them don't mind your weird schedule as long as the work is getting done properly. Still if you mess up your work one day, then coming late to the office will be surely remembered and rubbed into your face.

My sleep cycle is completely messed up since lockdown(almost a year). In pre lockdown period, I used to sleep at 1:30-2:30 AM & wake up at 7:30-8 AM. But now timing has changed from 5-5:30 AM to 12-1 PM. I have tried many times but it seems far difficult to go back to normal :(

I'm undergrad student and going through a similar schedule.I don't have a fixed sleep cycle. At first these felt so intense. But with time it's become okay. I guess that the modern world...Everything so fast and competitive. Whatever...You should be conscious about your health. Don't push too hard. It's okay to cool down and catch a breath.

Reverse for me: I used to go to sleep at 3am and now it's usually 11pm. Maybe because I don't create CP contests anymore.
