I really do not understand the usage of hiding comments with too many downvotes. Has it ever happened to you to avoid hitting "here" in these situations?

Yeah, I was also thinking about the same. Why to hide them , everyone has their own opinions which others may or may not like or agree with. There should be an option,I think for those who want to hide them
This makes me want to read them more. Is it just me?
Me too
It's all of us. No doubt
The only time it's useful is when it is a huge (and bad) meme image that otherwise takes more than a screen height rendering the comment section unusable. But driven by curiosity I open it anyway :\

Thanks god not another rickroll
I clicked and got ready for rickroll.
In all honesty I'm a little disappointed
Hi! I don't know why but i mostly open them out of curiosity :/ And mostly downvote them too XD.
I think the "here" button is useless when there is no "hide" button whatsoever after reading.
I think that a hide button could be useful in general, more like collapse a comment which could help with reading comment chains.
I think by default it should stay as is and a button (toggler maybe?) to unhide(and hide again) all the downvoted comments could be added for curious minds like ours.

Lol.. I was hoping to get rick rolled XD
Youtube ads prevent me from getting rick rolled
curiosity $$$\propto$$$ hidden comments
$$$contribution$$$ $$$\propto$$$ $$$\cfrac{1}{hidden\ comments}$$$
Your equation failed system test
It's probably for self-regulation.
When people write a comment that is considered irrelevant by many other people, it makes sens to hide it, so that you don't waste time reading irrelevant comments.
I think it's to block out potentially obscene or irrelevant content, because usually those comments get bombarded with downvotes. But as some people pointed out there's no way to re-hide so it sort of defeats the purpose
Actually it is very useful.
If it is something stupid, I don't mind seeing it once, but then I will not have look at the next time I visit the page
Even I saw a user commented nude pic few months ago. This feature is really necessary
And I just wanted to click the here option in your post xD
I think it's useful for example to hide offensive/inappropriate comments or spams. Those kind of comments usually have so many downvotes. But, if you choose to unhide the comment, it means you give your consent to see the hidden comment at your own risk.
