Hi everyone!

I am happy to announce the Osijek Competitive Programming Camp that is scheduled to happen on 18-26 February 2023 in Osijek, Croatia. The camp is hosted by the Department of Mathematics at J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek and is brought to you by the organizing team of adamant (that's me!), -is-this-fft-, mblazev, Tomx and antontrygubO_o.

The camp is inspired by various competitive programming camps that we attended during our active years in ICPC, and is aimed to help college students prepare for ICPC regional contests and finals. The camp will consist of 7 ICPC-style contests and 2 days off.

Up until now, most top competitive programming training camps have been organised in Russia, or by Russian entities. Due to the current situation in the world, attending such camps is not possible or desirable for a large number of participants, and we hope to offer a European alternative to Russian camps.

This is the first edition of the camp, and we all are very excited about it and hope that we may see you soon!

Details

Participation fee for onsite participants is 150€ per person. It does not include regular meals, travel or accommodation.

If you want to participate, but are unable to come onsite, we offer a reduced fee of 100€ per person for online participation. It is also possible to reduce fees individually if you are unable to attend some of the contests (e.g. because of the overlap with SWERC).

We support and empathize with those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine, therefore we offer a 100€ discount for affected individuals and teams affiliated with Ukrainian institutions. In other words, the fees would be 50€ and 0€ per person for onsite and online participation correspondingly.

The expected starting time for the contests is 10am CET. For online participants, it is still a preferred starting time, but if it is not an option for you, we will also offer an opportunity to compete virtually within 24 hours after the main window is over.

Participants

If you are interested in participating, please fill the form here.

We ask you to register before February 10 if you want to participate online and before February 4 if you want to participate onsite.

If you want to participate onsite, especially if you require visa support, we would urge you to register as soon as possible, as visa processing may take 30+ days.

Also, if your university has a lively ICPC community that may be interested in attending the camp, and you have some contacts of people in charge (e.g. coaches) we would highly appreciate if you could fill the form here, so that we can send an invitation. Thanks!

Problemsetters

We'd like to praise the authors of the contests for the camp:

Sponsors

Last but not least, we would like to say special thanks to our sponsors, who make the camp possible:

If you are interested in sponsoring next editions of the camp or have any questions, please feel free to reach out at [email protected].

Finally, we would also like to thank Codeforces for guidance and promoting this announcement to the main page, eolymp for providing us an online judge for the contests and the Department of Mathematics at J. J. Strossmayer University of Osijek for all their organizational support and providing us a physical location to conduct the camp.

Hi! Sorry, I'm not sure I understand the question. We plan to record video tutorials and share them with our online participants. Does this answer your question?

Hi, I was asking if the live recording can be replayed even after the entire camp ends? I think u answer yes? Will there be lecture to teach algorithms or just editorial for contest?

Yes, it would be possible to replay them. There are no algorithmic lectures, only contests and editorials. We mostly follow Petrozavodsk camp model in this regard, as well as in general contest difficulty and composition.

In particular please note that the contests are expected to be quite hard, this is equivalent to "division A" or "division 1" in some camps that have a wider target audience.

Given that the camp is being hosted in Europe, I'm assuming that the contest times will be in the middle of the night for American competitors. That being the case, will there be a way for teams attending online to compete virtually after the standard contest time?

Expected start time is around 10am CET. Such participation format seems to be in high demand, I will clarify.

We would generally prefer participants to start at the same time. If it is not possible at all, we will offer an opportunity to compete virtually after the main window. Specific format is to be announced, for now we would ask to clarify the preferred starting window in the registration form.

The camp is supposed to help prepare to ICPC competitions, so it is primarily aimed at ICPC-eligible teams of 3 students representing universities. While we recommend such composition, we will allow any teams of 1-3 people.

We will clarify with the university on how they may help in this regard. I expect them to send an official invitation letter to all participants who require it, so that they can use it as a supporting document for their applications.

If you know for sure what kind of help or documentation you require, you may write about it in the registration form (or to our email address if you have already submitted it) and we will do our best to accommodate.

I will tell more as soon as I have more information from the university. Unfortunately, the department is on holiday till January 9, so there might be delays at the moment.

I clarified this with the department today. They were insistent on only sending official invitation letters for visa purposes very sparingly. Practically, it means that most likely we will not be able to directly support visa applications for some applicants.

In particular, those whose rating and general level in competitive programming seems to fall significantly below our target range (as -is-this-fft- mentioned above, our camp does not have divisions and is expected to be at Div. A/Div. 1 level compared to other camps, meaning that it may be of very little value for less skilled participants).

Still, such participants are more than welcome to participate if they manage to get visas on their own, or if they want to participate online. I apologize for the underwhelming response and any misunderstanding or confusion that was potentially caused by my previous reply.

In general, we would highly appreciate if participants register as early as possible, so that we can have a reasonable expectation on their amount. Especially for participants who may require a visa, as processing time may be very tight for this iteration of the camp.

Other than that, I think, from our side we would like people to register at least a week in advance, so we may prepare properly. I will also clarify if there are any restrictions on the university side regarding this.

I clarified with the department, for onsite participation we would strongly prefer for teams to register at least 2 weeks before the camp. So, for those who want to attend onsite, they should register before February 4.

The difficulty distribution of the contests is expected to be at around ICPC regional/finals level. While we will try to accept applications from all interested teams, our recommendation would be to attend the camp in teams of 3 people, at Div. 1 level.

What are the contests sources you use? And specifically would it intersect with Petrozavodsk camp?

Most of the problems haven't appeared in programming competitions before, with few exceptions of some authors reusing some of their lesser known problems from local and/or private contests. To the best of my knowledge, there should be no intersection with Petrozavodsk problem sets.

Hi, would it be possible to have subs in the team in the case of online participation? I, for one, know that I won't be able to participate on 3 days. I guess we would be fine without any special adjustments on the technical side — just the blessing, so that we have a clear conscience :). Also, would we need to pay for more than 3 people then?

Hi! Yes, it is possible to change the team composition between contests. It is fine to pay just for 3 people, as long as only team of 3 participates on each contest.

I have sent credentials to all participants. That is:

  • teams who have filled out the form and paid the fee;
  • teams who have filled out the form and have kept in touch with us (e.g. teams who asked for an invoice);
  • teams who have filled out the form and whose fee is fully waived.

Please check if you got them. Check your spam folder. If you haven't received them, ask your teammates if they have got them. If you haven't, please contact us.
