We're so excited to invite you to take part in our round Harbour.Space Scholarship Contest 2023-2024 (Div. 1 + Div. 2) which will start on Aug/26/2023 17:35 (Moscow time). The round will be rated and open for everyone.

This contest is for all interested eligible programmers who want to start their bachelor and master studies in Barcelona, Spain or Bangkok, Thailand, and join ICPC team.

For the next academic year (2023/24), Harbour.Space University is recruiting a fascinating community of competitive programmers from the top prize-winners of international Olympiads to join one of several competitive programming teams at the university.

    It is related to the team's (setter/tester) subjective thoughts about the proportional difficulty compared to other tasks. It may or may not correlate to absolute rating, but we do aim for it to.

    Iterate over rows from top to bottom. Notice for each 1 that remains in the current row, you are forced to use an operation.

    Thus, the idea is to loop over rows from top to bottom and count the number of ones. Then, you have to find a way to efficiently store the effects of the operations on future rows.

    This can be done by keeping track of the number of operations performed on each diagonal and using prefix sums for each row.

        In a case like that you should implement brute force (takes less than 5 minutes) and run it locally. It's instantaneous to BFS all possible operations for small strings.

    Start by moving the incorrectly placed 0 (first character) as far back as possible. Now our string is 111010...10100.

    Now, reverse the first $$$k$$$ characters. Now our string is [0101...010111]10...10100 ([] contains the reversed part).

    How many incorrectly placed ones 0's our string currently have? Before the operaiton, we had one such 0. Every 0 included in the reversed segment was good, so now they're all bad. The reversed segment included $$$k/2$$$ elements at an even position, one of which was a 1 and the remaining $$$k/2-1$$$ were 0's. These now became bad, so we have a total of $$$k/2$$$ bad 0's.

    Note about above statement:

    Now, we have $$$k/2$$$ incorrectly placed 0's. Thus, we also must have $$$k/2$$$ incorrectly placed 1's. We can move all of these to the first $$$k$$$ positions of the string and reverse that segment, making all of these good. This concludes the proof that it is always possible to do the operation required for the lemma, which proves that the string can always be sorted. $$$\square$$$

As a small point of feedback, I wouldn't use $$$(x, y)$$$ to refer to row $$$x$$$ and column $$$y$$$, the $$$x$$$-axis is usually horizontal / $$$y$$$-axis is usually vertical. Maybe use $$$(r, c)$$$ instead. Otherwise thank you for the contest!

    Dunno if this is helpful, but I initially failed this because I multiplied by $$$k$$$ instead of $$$k!$$$ when rotating some subset of $$$k$$$ rows. Fixing that got me AC.

    Dunno but my solution ended up being very simple — rotate all you currently can in one direction (horizontal/vertical), switch direction, repeat.

    Since I'm doing this for both initial directions, I had to handle $$$A=B$$$ as a special case.

    If your solution for E is correct then it means you are able to solve it. The contest is over only means that it doesn't receive more submissions to judge for the standings and the rating which you can still earn whenever there is contest, it's not over for your journey on solving them.

    For me I need about more 5 seconds to submit solution for C.

    I think it's the same as my solution — for every pair $$$A_i = A_j = v \in [L,R]$$$, check if the maximum value $$$\lt v$$$ that lies between $$$i$$$ and $$$j$$$ is $$$L$$$, if yes then it adds one operation since we can't make both $$$A_i$$$ and $$$A_j$$$ zero "together", there have to be operations changing that maximum $$$\lt v$$$ between them to zero, then some separate sets of operations changing $$$A_i$$$ and $$$A_j$$$ to zeros.

      Yes my approach was also similar. For every a[i] I found the ranges it covers consisting of elements greater than or equal it then used a prefix sum array to calculate the total cost. Could you tell what was wrong in my approach?

      I could've tried to guess stuff. Instead I tried to figure out a rule, which was quite tough and wrong logic sent me in wrong ways a few times. In comparison, A-F was straightforward thinking (only difference being the amount of thinking), but more of writing down code and optimising it. When you have enough experience, that's a lot easier.

      I think G implementation was quite painful (finding the shifts, then finding the ordering constraints, then doing a topsort), and there's special cases like all row/col shifts only (which I failed to recognise in contest)

    Let's understand how to count the number of turns for A and B. Alice looks for the first 1 in A|B (suppose its position is i). If A[i] == 0, she understands, that B[i] == 1, so A < B. Otherwise she can't say anything exact, because B[i] can be either 0 or 1, so she skips. Now it's Bob's turn. If B[i] == 0, he understands, that A[i] == 1 and A > B. Otherwise he looks for the next 1 in A|B and the situation repeats. In general, let's define C as the number of 1's in LCP of A and B.     Consider the positions of the 1s in the OR value. When I refer to position, I am talking about these specific positions with 1 in the OR, skipping all the positions with 0 in the OR.

    If Alice has a 0 in the first position, she knows the 1 came from Bob, so her value must be smaller, allowing her to end the game. Otherwise, if she has a 1, she doesn't know whether Bob has a 0 or 1 here (or about later positions, if any), so she answers "I don't know".

    When Alice answers "I don't know" on her first turn, then Bob knows Alice has a 1 in the first position. Now, if Bob has a 0 in either the first or second position, then he knows his number is smaller, and ends the game. But if he has a 1 in his second position, then he answers "I don't know".

    More generally, if both players have 1s in the first $$$k - 1$$$ positions, then the first $$$k - 1$$$ turns are all "I don't know".

    Side Note: If Alice and Bob first differ at the $$$k$$$-th position, then the $$$k$$$-th answer depends on whether the person who is answering has a 1 ("I don't know") or 0 (smaller) in this position. So there are either $$$k$$$ turns or $$$k + 1$$$ turns, depending on who got the smaller value. This might sound annoying, but it's actually easy to handle when we deal with it later.

    So how do we count the expected number of turns? We can first count the total number of turns for every possible pair. But there are $$$n^2$$$ pairs, so we cannot afford to consider each pair one by one. We need a more efficient way to count them.

    My approach for calculating these turncounts involves MSD-RadixSort. We separate numbers based on whether their first bit is 0 or 1, then for each group, we separate them further based on the second bit and so on. At the $$$d$$$-th level, given a group, their first $$$(d - 1)$$$ bits all match and we can keep track of how many 1s are there to get the value of $$$k$$$. Then, if an unordered pair is formed by any number who has a 0 in the considered digit position and any number who has a 1 in the considered digit position, this will result in a turncount of $$$k$$$ or $$$k + 1$$$. Since we actually need to count ordered pairs, we add both $$$k$$$ and $$$k + 1$$$ to our total turncount (one corresponds to whether Alice gets the 0 and the other to whether Bob gets the 0, but we don't care which is which, and this keeps changing when $$$k$$$ updates anyway), i.e., multiply the number of unordered pairs with $$$2k + 1$$$.

    Finally, we need to consider the base-case, when we have a group where all values are equal. The MSD-RadixSort stops here, but it is possible for Alice and Bob to get the same value, which would also be equal to the OR value. If this OR value has a total of $$$k$$$ 1s, then there will be exactly $$$k$$$ turns of "I don't know" and then on the $$$(k + 1)$$$-th turn, the player will realize there are no positions left, and that they both must have the same value. The number of ordered pairs is equal to the size of the group squared (recall that both players might get the same index), and the turncount is exactly $$$k + 1$$$. The case where one or both players get the number 0 is correctly handled here (no need for an exceptional edge case check).

    Finally, don't forget to keep spamming the mod operation and to perform modulo division of the calculated total over $$$n^2$$$ (total number of ordered pairs) to get the final expected value.

To be specific you can maintain two counter for each column index, specifying how many increment and decrement should happen in each square.     I used the concept of meet in the middle. Suppose x is 39, I define the 'middle' as the biggest power of 2 less than or equal to x. In this case, the 'middle' is 2^5 = 32.

I have a completely different solution for problem C.

For a given value of $$$n$$$, I assume that there is a solution only considering divisors of the form $$$\frac{n}{p}$$$, where $$$p$$$ is any prime that divides $$$n$$$.

Given that it’s not obvious which $$$p$$$ we should use in each step, I literally try every possible value with backtracking, keeping track of the amount of times I used each divisor with a map (to avoid using them more than two times). As soon as I found a solution, I stop.

Note that in each step of the recursion, I factorize $$$n$$$ in $$$\mathcal{O}(\sqrt{n})$$$ to get all possible values of $$$p$$$.

I have no idea why this solution works, and also why it’s fast enough.

    I tested a hanful of TLE49 solutions, including mine (unironically all are submitted with C++20(64)), and they all passed with C++17 or doing the modification above. I have no idea why that works...

I got -1 when I was at 1599 Rating, now I hope I get +1 to 1600 and become Expert :)

Incorrect plagiarism in Question D: The approach to the question used by many people is quite similar due to the structure of the question: just 3 DP matrices, and because of this, the structure of the code of a lot of the submissions is similar. Please look into this.
