I am really excited to see a startup, built by mostly competitive programmers, launching a demonstration of which is the state-of-the-art.
You can watch their demo of Devin, the first AI software engineer, here
You can read the opinions of an external user who has early access here
This is an article from Bloomberg (paywall)
These are the competitive programmers involved
- Neal Wu neal | IOI 3 Gold
- Scott Wu scott_wu | IOI 3 Gold
- Andrew He ecnerwala | IOI 2 Gold
- Steven Hao stevenkplus | IOI 1 Gold 1 Sliver
- Walden Yan walnutwaldo20 | IOI 1 Gold
- Adhyyan Sekhsaria AsleepAdhyyan | IOI 1 Silver
There have been many other startups that started much earlier in the year (and raised more money) trying to make AI agents work, but it is this team of mostly competitive programmers that has finally demonstrated an AI software engineer that actually works.
Google, this is what you get for canceling all Code Jam contests and provocating us. We will blow up all your jobs with our AI software engineer
Programmers working on AI
AI: Dev-in
Me: Dev-out
AI: Dev ++
Me: Co-pilot engaged. Level up time!
I hope these heroes didn't have to sell their souls later on.
don't sell this masterpiece to google or big money, become Google yourself.
are engineers going to obsolete soon?
lmao no. AI winter is coming.
Motivated reasoning
What do you mean by AI winter?
It is Game of Thrones reference. It equivalent to Threat is coming.
AI winter is a real thing that happens when the AI hype dies down. It is the cause of the death of Lisp in mainstream programming.
No, you don't need to worry. It will only replace good software engineers.
Was excepting this on codeForces today, after the article.
What are other startups that are build by competitive programmers? Pika labs is also one.
I would love to work these people. scott would love to be part of the team.
orzdevinwang
Wow, really is the name inspiration from here?
How to invest?
why the downvotes ?
anyone who can beat out their competitors in some field of AI is gonna be rich
Are Scott Wu and Neal Wu related ?
They're brothers
Superpowers of Super Cpers
These so called brilliant people don't understand that their actions can actually trouble the not so brilliant people like us. Just stop glorifying AI so much. It will eat you one day.
What's next? The hyper intelligent guys coding up AIs, replacing the rest of the world, and the world returning back to a farm-based economy?
So governments should pay to cpers, so that they don't have to work, and economy remains stable:)
That's what you came up with?
The ones glorifying this do not realise that very soon, everything's gonna be obsolete. All this is gonna do is make the software jobs even lesser. Congratulations to these so called intelligent people out there for fu***ng our lives, who very well realise what they have done.
Why are people downvoting this true shit;)
Username checks out.
I think the name is inspired by the devinqu.
These are the Cyberdyne guys, soon there will be a Human Resistance !!!
Contrary to the hype in media and on Codeforces, interestingly, general consensus over at Reddit seems to be that this is "a scam". I don't support either opinion since I haven't looked into the demo or specifics myself, but the people over at Reddit apparently have.
the comments lmfaooo
ROFL
are they hiring ?
Should i stop doing coding then? and start agriculture because you cant automate that and people are going to eat food anyway.
Wait till Farm-GPT comes into picture. These elite coders will probably automate farming someday.
Such a waste of talent.
this is why you're gray bro T_T
smart people: i cannot do TikTok, utuba and OF, i want to do coding, its so cool and its an engineering discipline
Devin: ¬_¬
smart people: X_X
moral of story: smart people fall first, oversmart people make it happen
oh yes, my fav streaming platform, utuba
Devin's right, gotta ship code, not shade it. Real intelligence is building something awesome, while everyone's arguing about what's "cool."
I kinda support it, but it's incomplete without making an AI which can do the work of Product Managers
Let's shut all the repetitive work together, and invest hugely on research on complex quantum computing, physics etc
Let's try to build an AI for PMs also, would be fun ¬_¬
NFT 2.0
Dev guys:- CP guys are bad at dev
Le CP guys:- let me fix that(removes dev) :/
Plot twist: Le CP guy builds a killer dev environment with insane efficiency using competitive Algos.

obvious scam. devin types very fast but still sucks at real-world problems (only 13% on the benchmark) — sounds familiar? you don't see scott's face in any of these demos, he is busy screencasting some easy upwork task, while his brother is commenting. hire a few more cp'ers so u can "run" a few instances in parallel and you get your 20$m funding. oh, and when people who have actually tried it complain it's too slow — just say you're doing a tree search for advanced reasoning with llm's, and not that u just don't know how to do anything outside cp.
calling this a scam is too harsh imo. but indeed it's stupidly hyped.
yes bro what u wanna say now lol
Not defending them or anything, but do you know how big of a leap their results are from the previous state of the art? And can you do better?
Being slow is not an issue at all considering how good the results are (there will most likely be improvements in speed from both them and other players in the industry), at least compared to what the industry had earlier. Calling them people who can't do anything other than competitive programming just reflects your ignorance on the matter.
Vanilla / raw Claude 3 opus achieves 11%+ in SWE benchmark without anything on the top of it.
That's nice, is this assisted/unassisted?
u've missed my point, scott wu is devin himself, i've seen him code irl it looks same, i have no doubt. current ai's are glorified databases, they have no heart.
Yes, and i am chatgpt
Bro, wtf...
And I am a nor gate.
for AI, marketing > actual product
its so dumb, most of peopme commenting directly getting negitive while people repliying to comments getting +ve votes
As a comment reader, our problems are well similar, and as a tradition give me positive contribution.
