Hi all,

I've co-founded two algorithms summer camps -- AddisCoder in Ethiopia and JamCoders in Jamaica -- for high school students in these two countries (see addiscoder.com and jamcoders.org.jm). These are each 4 week programs, 40 hours per week, with teaching assistants showing up a week early to help prep.

If you would like to volunteer as a teaching assistant for either program, please apply! We cover plane tickets, meals, and housing for all volunteers. Previous volunteers from CodeForces include SoMuchDrama, Reyna, IanDeHaan, mukeremali, and acm.

If you decide to apply to be a volunteer teaching assistant, please do so by Dec 31st. Both programs will take place Summer 2024.

I wouldn't know how to answer that without seeing your application, so apply! You can see what we cover here, to get a sense of whether you feel like you know the material well.

I highly recommend applying to this. I learnt a lot from being a TA there both in terms of teaching and cultural experiences. I also made lifelong friends (other TAs and some of the students).

A document that shows the history of all classes you've taken since entering university, and your final grade in each class.

What if I've just been admitted, so no transcripts?

I cannot understand. Why should the summer camp people pay money to fund the trip of mentors?

They don't. The high school students participate for free (even dorms and meals are free), and the mentors also have all their expenses paid (meals, housing, flights). Or did you mean something else?

I understand. I did not mean something else.

However do explain then. If everything is free, who is running the costs of this?

Ah. We have been fortunate to receive donations (and in the case of Ethiopia, also support from the government) which are sufficient to cover the costs.

This is a brilliant program. I hope it continues in the future! Is there some kind of selection process to choose the students, because they are taught for free?

Yes. In Ethiopia, there are two ways for HS students to be admitted:

            1) We select half the students from an online application at https://apply.addiscoder.com/apply/

            2) The other half are selected by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education in partnership with public universities across the countries, by selecting students from their afterschool STEM programs.

In Jamaica, we just have the online application route: https://apply.jamcoders.org.jm/apply/
