I like to listen to music while I'm writing code, but when I'm thinking I usually stop it.

It really depends. For me, chillin' music (instrumental) can help me to be focus on somthing better. However, not everyone can have the same feeling as me. I do not try to concentrate on the playing music; it just creates an environment that there's no noise or other sounds.

Yes, I listen to music during a contest. It helps me lock in on the contest. I find that random artists screaming random words in my ear really helps me formalize my thought process. This is not sarcasm. ;)

Most of the times some anime background music or intro... Somehow it just helps me in staying focussed.

Yes, but only relaxing / low tempo stuff. I like Luna Li, Liana Flores and Ichiko Aoba for example.

If I put on some rock music I'm not concentrating well enough :)

Yes! I can't go long implementation without BGM (TBH, in ICPC onsite contests, no BGM 5-hour is every time painful for me...).

Hardcore/Speedcore enjoyer here. The harder the music, the better.

I'm more into J-core scene. Still, a casual change in taste doesn't harm (and Ruski hardbass slaps hard ngl).

I usually listen to skyrim night ambient or random synthwave playlists. I listen to it because it gives me a sense of flow and removes external distractions, but I usually turn it off when I need to focus really hard.

Yes when doing very easy problems like A and B. I've heard that a study (or research, I can't remember it) shows that listening to music makes your brain more active and speed faster when doing some simple tasks, like copying or doing the problems that you can come up with the solution at a glance. But it will distract yourself when you are intensively thinking.

I used to listen, but I realized now that I do better when I don't listen to music. Sometimes when I don't think and just code I like to put on some fast-paced heavier music.

I like to listen music when doing a casual implementation in practicing. In contests I find it distracting and feel like I do worse when listening so I dont listen in contests and vc's.

In contests, music just sounds too grating. Imo, ASMR is much more suitable for contests.
