It is basically trying to solve (by yourself or reading the editorial) the easiest or maybe 2 easiest questions which you were not able to solve in the given time limit.
Basically if you were able to solve A and B during the contest, trying C after the contest means that you are "upsolving" C.
Bit of both, really.
Suppose you can solve upto B reliably in a CF contest-then after the contest, you should aim to solve C after contest with/without help/editorial. If a competitor/batchmate/contestant of similar strength compared to yours solves any problem of that contest, of higher difficulty, you should try to solve it as well.
Thanks vaia.
