For the past few months, vnovakov and I have been working on a product called Lunch Club that connects people algorithmically in cities and events around the world. We'll be running Lunch Club at ICPC WF this week as a way for contestants and alums to get to meet one another. Lunch Club will be making matches for 1:1 lunches Monday and Tuesday at the hotel. How do you prevent spammers?

We cross-validate email and CF handle to make sure you are actually attending ICPC or an alumnus / special guest.
How about people without a CF handle? Do you just check if their e-mail is on a list of e-mails of people who are at ICPC?
Yes, also, there are third-party APIs that can de-dedupe emails to see if two emails are actually the same person or not. And 80% or more people who registered do have a CF handle :)

Do you actually have a list of participants and alumnus / special guests? I misunderstood the prerequisites and registered while I am neither a participant nor a special guest, After realized that, I reply the email sent to me to apologize and cancel the match. However, it seems I still, unfortunately, let someone waiting for me. I hope he didn't feel bad about that.

You can still participate — we will message you here on Cf about your match. That’s why we asked for Cf handle as well as email!
