Are there any metalhead in Codeforces? What's your favorite band/album for each genre?
Here's my answer:
- Heavy Metal
Band: Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Black Sabbath
Album: Painkiller (Judas Priest)/Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
- Thrash Metal
Band: Megadeth!
Album: Rust in Peace (Megadeth)/Ride the Lightening (Metallica)
- Black Metal
Band: Emperor
Album: Ugh this is tough... I'll choose five
(1) Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk (Emperor)
(2) Storm of the Light's Bane (Dissection)
(3) Filosofem (Burzum)
(4) 孤雁 (葬尸湖) This is a Chinese Black Metal Band — it's awesome, give it a try if you haven't.
(5) Souvenirs D'un Autre Monde (Alcest) Alcest is more like a shoegaze/post-black-metal band, but it's still extremely good!
- Death Metal
Band: Death
Album: Symbolic (Death)
I don't really listen to death metal.
At last, PM me if you are interested, maybe we can discuss more!

Progressive rock fans should give Porcupine Tree a shot.
Oh yeah, forgot to add that to my list. Russia on Ice is one of my all time favorites :)
Nice list! I personally haven’t been a huge progressive rock fan. So I’m just really curious — what’s the most unique part about progressive rock that you really appreciate?
Sometimes, progressive rock seems too technical to me (i.e. Dream Theatre), and it just makes it “less metal” if that makes any sense. Perhaps I should give it another try and pay more attention.
Btw, my favorite progressive rock band/album is Pink Floyd/The Dark Side of the Moon.
Oh, nice! I listen to Floyd every once in a while too. To be honest, I get why you say that. I think prog and jazz are two of the genres that take a lot of time to comprehend(kind of an acquired taste in the most literal way). I mean it in the sense that I have to listen to a prog song multiple times before I can start appreciating all the nuances of the song. Whether it be the change in time signatures admist a song, or changes in modes and other subtleties-it takes a quite a bit of time to really understand what's going on(at least for me). By the way, I know a lot of Dream Theater that are all about the soul. You should give Hollow Years a try. One of my favorite Petrucci solos hands down
Thanks for replying! That makes a lot of sense — I guess it just takes more time to fully appreciate a prog song.
Bands: Tears of mankind and Abyssphere
Very much recommended!
Sounds good! Speaking of melodic death metal, I also recommend Insomnium!
Hey, I listen to jazz music, can I join too?
My favorite band is Polyphia.
Technically, Jazz is quite different from metal/rock ... but sure why not?
Ah Polyphia ... another progressive/math rock fan :D?
no? aren't they a jazz band? lol
But I remember their name in a math rock introduction video lol. And their Wikipedia profile seems to agree. But I haven’t listened to it myself, so I can’t really tell lol.
it's a joke
Polyphia has gotten a bit more chill in the recent years by fusing their rock music with trap and hip-hop, it's much more chill than a normal metal song, hence "jazz"
Oh I see :o
Did you say Polyphia? ◕ ◡ ◕
I listen to a lot of Deeds of Flesh.
Wow, a brutal death metal listener! Do you like death metal in general?
My only engagement with metal is listening to Dunkelheit for 1000+ hours over the years
Lol Dunkelheit is definitely one of the best from Filosofem!
I like black metal a lot, like Ne Oblivscaris Alcest Shylmagoghnar and the like
Favorite album has top be Ne Oblivscaris- Portal of I
Black Metal is also my favorite sub-genre
Yes, Shylmagoghnar 100%!!
Why is this on Codeforces?
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with that. But of course you can argue otherwise.
I'd rather look at newbies failing and spamming already posted questions than irrelevant topics to cp. Plenty of other places for this.

BRING ME THE HORIZON(ALT METAL)
Hello Is there anybody in there? :)
I really like to listen to some of the heaviest bands out there, like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine. Check them out, this is some real stuff!Okay, jokes aside: I listen to a lot of different bands belonging to many different genres, but perhaps my favourite ones are melodic death metal and metalcore (it's kinda hard to distinguish between them, so it may count as one favourite genre). Some of the albums I was really excited while listening to them for the first/second/42nd/1337th time:
I also find some guilty pleasure in listening to bands that try to mix metal with electronic and/or pop music — like the first three albums of Sonic Syndicate, the first three albums of Amaranthe and stuff like that. Perhaps I shouldn't feel guilty about that, because tastes differ, but I don't know if it can be treated as metal :)
And by the way, the first paragraph about A7X/BFMV was only partially a joke, some albums of these bands are actually quite enjoyable for me. Guilty pleasure again, it seems.
