There is exactly one character ( and exactly one character ) .

This should be There is exactly one character '(' and exactly one character ')'.

I wasted an hour on this :/.

    I stupidly took () opening and closing brackets as we normally use them in English for clarifying something. So I missed that the question wanted to say that there is only one '(' and one ')'.

      Yeah but then it would be mean — There is exactly one character .... and then emphasising it again in brackets — (and exactly one character).

      Don't know, I just thought it would have been clear by the samples :)
