The Minimum Game was the most challenging question, and only ten coders were on top of their game and could solve this problem. But fret not; now that the video editorials are out, you can learn from the best
Hope to see you participating.
Good Luck!
Why is it unrated for div 2?
Wait for next starters, it will be rated. Actually, this is first time div2 got 2 rated starters in a month !!
I have tried to explain my thought process and solutions (in hindi) here if someone is interested.
why there are no prizes in starters ?
Maybe because this makes no sense? If you look at the starters 12 scoreboard, then you can see that the top places are occupied by dmitrygrigorev, rgnerdplayer, itohdak, kaildls, thabumi and possibly many other codeforces people, who have just created their accounts on codechef for the first time. I'm at position 20 in the scoreboard too and this was my second codechef contest. This newly formed codeforces squad is stepping on the heads of the usual codechef div3 leaders and they seem to be unhappy, but blaming cheaters.
My personal opinion is that winning top positions in low division contests is meaningless. If we look at the codeforces contests, then only ranking positions in div1, div1+2 and global rounds really matter. Getting into the top 2000 of a global round may be considered as a personal achievement. But getting into the top 1500 of a div2 round is an irrelevant bullshit number (because of smurfers infestation and many other factors).
As for providing some rewards for weaker contestants. I think that random t-shirt lotteries are a great way to motivate the participants and give them a chance to win at least something. If the chance of winning a random t-shirt depended on your placement in the scoreboard, then this would be just perfect.
