I think it was made so that people know which person came from where(because people might be interested with where they actually came from).

Yes. It does bother me. The Soviets used to use international achievements and the Olympics as propaganda. Each competition was a "special operation" against the Westerns. Modern Russia has the same ways. Russian IOI participants are not to blame for the current situation, however, the Russian state does not deserve to be represented by them.

When can we ban China for invading Taiwan?

Ban Yemen too for housing Al-Queda

We must also ban Venezuela if they don't give us oil

According to my observation, as long as you mention Taiwan, there will be countless Chinese using countless accounts to give you downvotes. You will lose your contribution faster than Ukraine will lose Kiev.

          Seems not false.

          Edit: origin comment

I'm proud of my country's ability to educate us about the right view of history. Downvoting is our right, and downvoting is correct (at least for some of the comments). If you have any misconceptions about this, get to know the real history (not some media propaganda).

I'm sure countries and their rulers have a very impartial view of history! Such education will certainly adhere to all facts and absolutely won't be used to subjungate the own population. Whenever the leader of a country had total control of children's education, has it ever led to anything but peace, love and happiness?

And, bonus, in the unlikely scenario that anything indeed does go wrong and the supreme leader suprisingly turns out to be a power-hungry narcissist obsessed with having total control over his population (who could have known!), I guess it will be really simple for the people to change the situation!

We understand the fact that the Chinese government has its problems. We are not as ignorant as you may think.

But, as a westerner, you should probably learn more about the modern Chinese history. We suffered too much from your imperialism. You guys don't know how many people were killed and how our interests being ignored. However, the world is changing. We'll never let this situation happen again.

This war has nothing to do with us. So please stop talking about China.

Country rankings should have nothing to do with politics. Russia/Soviet Union has been using them to show the "greatness" of their system. I am sure that IOI doesn't want to serve as propaganda in the current situation.

Lol, NO, IT DOESN'T. Isn't it absolutely ok to congratulate your country's winners? Doesn't your country president do the same? Or should we just ignore that our country mates won medals at Olympiad?

Or should I tell you that my country, Moldova, president congratulated our students with results at IMO, and there also is such post as you sent somewhere in internet, you can find it if you want.

So now, following your logic, we should ban Moldova from participating at IOI, or prohibit participating under Moldovan flag because

It's used later for Moldovan propaganda!!!!

So I'm still waiting for real proofs of your words, but not just your own assumptions.

Of course you can call them "IOI team", if it is comfortable for you. For me and for people who don't act like offended 13yo girl, Russia team is Russia team, independently from what it's called by respectable ioi committee

And yes, if there participates a team representing Russia at IOI, then Russia participates at IOI

There are very impressive results, congratulations to all participants!

Since some people seem to be comparing nations, I just want to point out that goals and surrounding circumstances can vary a lot between countries (such as: focus on different competitions, high-school age, funding, etc.). Moreover, it is important to balance cp training and pupil's well-being, including giving these children time for other interests. From my personal IOI experience, countries that are less competitive tend to have very happy participants, which is most important.

So please let's view country scores as fun facts or general statistics without making this about national pride.

I still haven't figured out what "orz orz" means, but just to be clear: Chinese participants are clearly extremely talented and can be very happy with their results!

To illustrate my original point with an example: Germany is, I think, pretty good in the (weird) Olympic discipline of bobsleigh. And it is very natural and cool to be like "wow, that's impressive". At the same time, nations shouldn't base their national pride on competing in bobsleigh. If a nation has fewer achievements there, perhaps that's simply because there are no mountains, less snow or different priorities. Bobsleigh results aren't really comparable. And the same holds true for IOI results.
