From ICPC regional rules:
The ICPC World Finals cycle is still affected by the pandemic, and the ICPC World Finals Dhaka in November 2022 is for the teams qualified from the regional year 2020/21. To come back on track the ICPC is planning to determine the two World Championships for the regional years 2021/22 and 2022/23 simultaneously at the same event with separate acknowledgement of champions and medalists. The target date for this event is the last week of November 2023.
And further:
A student may compete in only one of these two Championships.
A qualified student on different teams that qualify for ICPC World Finals 2022 and ICPC World Finals 2023 will participate on the team qualifying for the 2023 World Finals. The coach of the team qualifying for the 2022 World Finals may request a qualified replacement. Details later.
Personal comment: this seems pretty cheap. If they already plan to fly all the teams to one venue, what stops them from holding two finals on separate days? Are they gonna use the same problemset?
Too lazy to come up with 24 problems in 1 year
it seems that because of the COVID seasonal shifts, they had a lot more time.. After the 2020 WF, it was sort of said that there would be two separate contests but in one place. Exactly one year has passed since the 2020 ICPC finals and it seems they couldn't come up with enough problems to make them fit for another contest
If they use the same problemset, will we see a merged scoreboard (during the contest or just in the livestream)?
My guess is no, it should be 2 separate competitions and they shouldn't affect each other.
I heard a while ago (maybe from a coach or something) that the problemset would be the same
I already qualified to ICPC 2022, I was planning to participate this year also but my team in ICPC 2022 is stronger so I will not, I am 23 old in my last semester at university so simply it's over for me I can't participate anymore.
So just win 2022 lol
Very interesting, but I usually don't want to solve problems when participating in joint events...
Does this mean that if someone's second world finals is WF22, they are still eligible to compete in regionals for WF23 and potentially replace their second world finals?
Is there any news regarding the regionals for the 2024 world finals? Will those regionals take place in 2023 as well?
where ICPC 2022 will be? and where ICPC 2023 will be?
