DecayingSylow's blog

Today I opened Luogu for the first time.

  • On Luogu, if you practice with *3000 rated Codeforces problems, you are not an International Grandmaster, you are "NOI-" ("National Olympiad in Informatics minus"?). So the average Chinese IGM knows he is not so competitive at the national level (skill issue) and he must tryhard to reach "NOI", "NOI+" and "CTSC" level.
  • There are a lot of editorials written by contestants (about $$$10$$$ for each problem), which can be better than the official editorial. This holds for both easy and hard problems. Learning from Luogu editorials seems fun!
  • The community is not toxic at all! If the tests in a problem are weak, according to Luogu users the reason is not "the author is retarded", but "the author is still too young" (i.e., $$$11$$$ years old).

If you wish to become LGM, of course the first step is creating an account on Luogu.

Maybe you don't have to learn Chinese after a short period of time. The discussion in luogu (which is in Chinese) told us Luogu is starting to internationalize (however presently we cannot use Luogu Global). The translation of this discussion is as follows:

    2024.02.06 Announcement

We are currently undergoing significant updates to Luogu. During this period, there may be intermittent access issues and various bugs. We appreciate your understanding.

The planned updates are as follows:

    • Enabling the luogu.com domain as the global domain for Luogu.
    • Launching an article section in Luogu Global, discontinuing Luogu Blogs; content from Luogu Blogs will be fully migrated to the article section. The solution feature will not be affected.
    • In Luogu Global, users will be able to view discussions, clipboards, user profiles, and other information, but due to servers being located outside of mainland China, speed may be slower and there is a possibility of being blocked in mainland China.
    • Luogu Mainland will no longer display any unverified public UGC content, and the Luogu community will primarily move overseas.
    • In the next steps, Luogu will gradually implement:
    • Luogu Global will provide a multi-language version of the user interface along with corresponding user systems.

    • Problem statements will also allow multiple languages. Initial translations will be done by AIs. Users can also contribute versions in multiple languages.
    • Meeting the training needs for ICPC, such as team formation, virtual participation, and archiving and filtering official contests (gyms). ICPC awards can be authenticated.

Unfortunately, due to policy reasons, we cannot keep the community in mainland China. We wish the Luogu community overseas a new beginning.

From my understanding of the difficulty level, "NOI-" means easy problems in NOI level. It is not really "you can't qualify for NOI". But since most of them are like >=IGM if they qualify for NOI, it can be considered like ~*2400-*3000 if it is NOI-

Having seen multiple Chinese contestants getting to red rating in a span of a few months or maybe a year, I was always curious about how you practice in China. Do you think Luogu problems are maybe better than CF? Also, there is a page called Questions Bank (题单) and there appear to be some educational problems on things like arrays, math, structures, graphs, trees, DP etc. Do you think they are worth solving?

I am not from China, but I can say that it is not so difficult to get a high rating (CM, Master...) if you have a good background in Olympiad maths, maybe in some CS subject. For example, I became an expert from the first time without knowing more or less any algorithm. And i also doing CP only $$$1$$$ year.

I completely agree with what you're saying, it's also the reason why I started doing more math in terms of practicing CP than actually solving CF problems. But I'm quite curious about Luogu and the quality of problems and editorials, as I have now seen that indeed there are multiple people explaining their solutions to pretty much every problem I selected (even the most basic ones) and it's quite nice to have so many different perspectives. Also, there are mashups for specific topics like graphs or DP, which I haven't started learning about yet.

In luogu you can get "contribution" by posting editorials for problems instead of blogs, and the color of your handle has to do with such "contribution", instead of "luogu rating".

Some people post editorials just for the "contribution" and what's worse some editorials are just copied from others and the writer even didn't solve the problem....

Luogu coordinators are quite consistent with punishment on cheaters. Cheaters get a brown handle as a warning, and in more serious occasions have ratings reset or even all AC records wiped out.

It all comes down to your own preference. Luogu-made problems are kinda confusing for me, compared to codeforces problems. Currently I practice on Luogu to search for problems (possibly codeforces problems/atcoder with translation) because of the user editorials and that the tag searching is much more efficient.

Luogu has two "rating" systems. One of them is named "guzhi", and that's what you said. But the other is named "elo rating", and that's "a match level score".

So let me just explain this. Luogu just a site use to practice your programming.(Rubbish Talk!!!) If it's normal, nothing usually happens, but when some students copy the solutions and insult the administrators, a world war may break out in Luogu.(Some example: https://www.luogu.com.cn/discuss/61884, this tough man can let 11 (valuation) admins come out and ban this student)

BTW, you can join a race like Codeforces called Caféforces https://www.luogu.com.cn/contest/147008

Doesn't Codeforces have these things? Example: CF version of luogu discuss 61884, xlpg0317's rubbish blogs & comments

Luogu usually punishes some contests and problemsetters if the contest is bad, for example preventing them from problemsettings. Luogu punished 8 contests in 2023, but Codeforces did not even publish a clarification after Goodbye 2023 with the blog having 4500+ downvotes!

Off-topic: I got rank 2 in Caféforces round 2. (In fact, there are also some other codeforces style contests on luogu.)

  • Suitable for ICPC training needs, such as teaming, virtual participation, archival screening of official competitions (gyms), etc. ICPC awards can be accredited.

I'm sorry for my poor English. Part is written by the translator.
In fact, some of the difficulty of questions from Luogu "Codeforces Remotejudge" area are inaccuracy or even judged maliciously, and this historical legacy is still being dealt with.
