You might remember that I broke my right hand a while back. Well... I tripped on the stairs and broke my left hand now.

Since having two broken hands somewhat gets in the way of typing, I tried to use some hands-free voice-activated tool like Cursorless. Verdict: I but couldn't get used to it. Luckily I only broke my pinky finger, and can move my thumb, index and middle finger, so I am still able to type. Just even slower than before.

I did some rounds on a burner account, and I performed 200 rating points below my normal (I think my normal is around 1900, my current rating is uncommonly high).

At this point, my main bottleneck appears to be inputting code into the computer (it can take like 40 mins on some problems) so I've started experimenting with some less common strategies like starting with problem D and working backwards (in div 2). My reasoning is that, due to score distribution, it's better to run out of time to implement A and B, and only solve CD than running out of time on D and solving ABC.

It works quite well: after this change, it looks like I might be able to maintain 100 points below my normal. I will try starting with E next time, but I'm not always able to solve E, so it might not work.

Don't take anything for granted, especially your health! But remember that where there is a will, there is a way! I failed to get used to it but maybe you can tie both your hands behind your back and use Cursorless on the next rated round?

Cheers

So there is a possibility that rainboy participates in contests blindfolded, hands tied, ears plugged, standing on one leg and juggling with the other. That would explain why he always starts from div1F or whatever the last problem of the contest is. orz

Hi bro, you might remember me from this comment. It's kinda awesome how you're participating in contests no matter how much of you is broken. I know that just not able to use the hand is not the problem, the pain, or the effects of pain killers, the discomfort of maintaining the hand in a safe position, they all seem to grow up the frustration. Keep the spirit up!

How's your right hand now? How serious is this new injury? Take care!

    Thanks  haha

YESSS! It seems silly but all these things really add up. Not being able to do things, etc. It's so frustrating! Seeing comments from someone that dealt with something similar really encourages me, thanks a lot for that <3

How's your right hand now? How serious is this new injury?

The trauma on my right hand was pretty serious so it gets inflamed easily (but only when I forget to take the pill they gave me for that). I get flashes of pain from time to time and it seems like they are getting more frequent but also way less intense (I think that's good, right?). They're taking of my cast on Thursday.

The painkillers help a lot: there are no flashes of pain when I'm on them but I don't like taking them. Not because of side effects (I don't think I've experienced any side effects like dizziness, stomach problems, etc), I just don't like them "ideologically", not sure why.

As for the new injury, although it's also a complete fracture of a metacarpal bone, it's way less serious than the old one. It didn't require surgery and it doesn't even hurt much (most of the time it doesn't hurt at all, even without painkillers). The doc even mentioned that there's a chance they will remove both casts the same day, even though this injury is three weeks more recent. All in all, it's looking pretty good :^).

      I think that's good, right?

I guess yeah, the pain kinda gets very bearable, it's like you can feel that there is pain, but it just does not disturb you while doing something. About the inflammation, my doctors asked me to keep opening and closing fingers all day (opening and closing fist, swiftly and tightly), it's painful at first, but then it gets easier, you can try if that works.

The doc even mentioned that there's a chance they will remove both casts the same day

That's finally some amazing news. Things get a little easier without the heavy plaster, within 3-4 days I started gaining control over my hand and move it without the help of the other. But those days are critical since the plaster if off you have to protect the hand by yourself, even a small tug I got pained a lot. But that regaining control feeling is truly very motivating.

Begin physio ASAP after the cast is off. Get well soon! Then, we can have a lockout match with just 1 hand allowed to type ;)

I'm sorry :'c -- I hope having a broken hand is enough of an excuse to not get banned :beg:

Also, I was a student at UNICAMP training camp last year, I really liked your classes <3
