Psychotic_D's blog

By Psychotic_D, 4 months ago, In English

Hello codeforces!

I'm Psychotic_D and I'm sorry for not using fair means in the recent contests.

As a competitive programmer, I have always loved the sport and have been actively contributing in the community for the past 3 years. Unfortunately greed got to me.

I am writing to address the recent accusations and evidence brought against me regarding my participation in Codeforces Round 960 (Div. 2). After careful reflection and consideration, I have come to realize the gravity of my actions and the impact they have had on the community.

So what happened?

Firstly, I want to acknowledge the accusations made by herav_singhhh and the subsequent investigation by the community. I understand that my performance in the round raised suspicion, and the evidence presented has provided a compelling case.

In that contest, I solved A B C D fast and could sense that if I also got E1 and E2 I would get to IM. Somewhere this greed got to me and I asked my friend for help in the solution for it.

For a moment, I felt that achieving IM was within reach. I could've been happy with becoming a Master, and in the next few contests, I might have become an IM anyway. It was a huge mistake on my part.

I don't want to deny anything now, I have also asked for help during other contests in the past.

My intention was not about getting a job at all, as many people thought. If that had been my intention, reaching CM and securing 15th rank in the ICPC was enough to leave CP right after it. I could spam it everywhere and score well in leetcode contests to get attention of recruiters. But I didn't. Instead, I contributed to the community in many ways. I prepared problems and did lectures because I genuinely like it.

I deeply regret my actions and the breach of trust it has caused within the community. This was a mistake driven by the greed of a naive young man, and now this man wants to move on.

I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to:

  • The Codeforces community for betraying their trust.

  • My friends and teammates at TheForces, who are now unfairly scrutinised due to my misconduct.

To begin making amends, I will:

  • Accept any penalties or bans imposed by the Codeforces administration without contesting it.

  • Work towards bettering myself and will try my best to shine again in the next ICPC just like I did in the past (DropTheBayesUnofficial) (PersistentTriersUnofficial).

  • Publicly commit to upholding the values of integrity and fairness in all future competitions, looking forward to contribute to the community again with whatever skills I have.

I understand that words alone cannot rectify the situation, but I hope my actions henceforth will demonstrate my commitment to change. I am truly sorry for the disappointment and frustration I have caused. I ask for the opportunity to earn back your trust and respect through my future conduct.

Sorry for not coming out with this earlier. Many people planned to defame me entirely, flooding my DMs, and calling me to disturb me. That's why I took down my socials, for mental peace. Discussions with good friends later helped me regain stability.

Respected defnotmee, thank you for proofreading it and for the healthy discussion.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am deeply remorseful and am dedicated to proving my sincerity through my actions.

So I am requesting you to just bring out more names from your group who helped you so that we can bring down the whole network and make cp a cheating free community.

I don't think he is in a network. Idk if you've been following this but from what it looks like he was asking amenotiomoi for solutions. The most that could happen is ameno revealing who he gave solutions to, and it partially happened on https://codeforces.net/blog/entry/131826

During the testing and even when I thought of the problem, I wasn't aware of it. It's truly a coincidence. Even the coordinator or any of the co-authors weren't aware; I got to know it yesterday, and I think it was pointed out for the first time in that comment, honestly. But I'm leaving it to you.

    Oh, really now?

    I told everything to defnotmee.

I am not gonna downplay anything, it is what it is! But I am glad that you finally gathered the courage to accept it publicly rather than trying to stay low and wait for the issue to subside, it's not easy for sure but probably the first step towards the amends you mentioned!

I don't think people in general doubt your intellect (at least the ones who have worked with you in the past wouldn't), just that a lot were shocked by this incident this is obvious as they look upto you since you have been able to achieve a lot of milestones they dream and have been actively contributing to the community as well. I hope all this finally ends on a positive note and people (mostly freshers) are able to pickup something positive from this otherwise negative incident!

You still didn't comment on anything about you getting contest questions before hand as after all contest setter was your friend and also how you have 4 contest skipped from your profile.

I'm glad to see that you have the courage to apologize. However, I don't think this is a complete apology because you haven't explained the whole situation clearly.

Let me organize some materials here.

At the beginning of the matter, I sent a testing link to Psychotic_D by error, and Psychotic_D said he wanted to participate officially. Afterwards, I deleted the link. But this gives Psychotic_D the possibility of obtaining the test link.

After the publication of this blog, I suggested investigating suspicious accounts on the testing page. Here are some reactions from Psychotic_D:

image1 image2

If you are truly concerned about your friend's safety, shouldn't you be actively cooperating with the investigation instead of asking me to delete the link?

Afterwards, I contacted the CF administrator Vladosiya. After communicating with him, I received the following information:

image1 image2

The administrator identified through IP and browser fingerprint that the tester account _timer_ is related to the account EndlessDreams.

Furthermore, the account EndlessDreams is connected to Psychotic_D.

From my point of view, this is what Psychotic_D did: when I sent the test link to Psychotic_D, he pretended to ask me to delete the link, but actually saved the test link himself. Afterwards, he accessed the testing page through his alt account _timer_ and obtained the problems. Afterwards, he prepared solutions in advance and participated in CF Round #960, winning second place.

Today, I finally received a response and decision from the administrator Vladosiya, and my long-standing worries have finally been put to rest. Thank you to all the CF administrators for your efforts in maintaining the community!

If someone will ask me even after 10 years, I will say I didn't access and there's no point hiding it.

The administrator identified through IP and browser fingerprint that the tester account timer is related to the account EndlessDreams.

I'm still confused about this, nothing makes sense to me

    • If psy made the account, why would he access EndlessDreams in the meantime? I assume that for the link to happen both accounts had to be accessed recently right?

    • If psy asked amenotiomoi to create the account, why didnt he admit to it? The stuff he went over is already bad. It also doesn't feel like something he would do based on his motives from here

    • If none of them did it who would make the timer account

Could you or Vladosiya go into more detail about this link between the two accounts? I'm genuinely curious on what happened.

I thought it's a rule to only manually add testers by handle and not give anyone invitation links. At least I was very explicitly asked not to create the invitation link when preparing my and Jeroen's round...

Given the extent of your fraudulent activities (your admission plus asking for help several times in the past), I think that you need to acknowledge that you had no remorse when you cheated, otherwise you wouldn't have done it at all. And your "naive young man" thing is simply just something I would expect from a 14 year old caught cheating, not a young adult. If I'm honest here, I don't think you really mean it when you regret your actions but let's give you the benefit of the doubt for now.

According to evidence shown in the blogs plus the comments above, I don't think anyone can trust you that you actually contributed positively in any way to enriching competitive programming.

People like you who boast about fake results obtained by fraud are a big part of the reason why many people seem to have gone this way instead of practicing, solving problems and being better. I think many of the messages sent to you were from people who were either frustrated with what you did or even worse, you were an inspiration for them only to have it turned out that you weren't what you pretended to be. Think at a child seeing their idol sports player turn out to have been doping and imagine yourself in the place of these fans.

While personally if I were to be an admin here I would have banned you for life, if you somehow end up being unbanned or if you end up making another account, please have the decency to screencast every single contest and track your progress while holding yourself accountable to a community you betrayed with your actions, maybe that can also help some cheaters reconsider their view on how contests should be treated.

Good luck and let's hope you won't relapse as far as cheating goes.

I believe that recording your screen during contest and uploading it afterwards would be a big step in the right direction, because as it is, (sorry for being harsh) this apology is just a bunch of words and not any commitments (just like most youtuber's apologies, iykyk). If you did that, I think most people would have a much better opinion of you, and would show that you're really willing to improve.

For a moment, I felt that achieving IM was within reach This doesn't make sense at all. You had already became IM way before, its not like you were becoming IM the first time. So why was it so important to reach IM again this time unless you cheated last time as well to become IM.

I do not think that this apology is all that sincere. You spend a significant amount of it trying to whitewash your image. I hope you realise that the negatives your actions have caused to our community are more significant than the positives. Irrespective of whether they should, many Indian CPers rely upon Codeforces to showcase their mental and problem-solving skills and get better opportunities than they otherwise would. You, personally, should have realised the importance of such a level playing field. Instead, with your "high-profile" cheating scandal, you have done a disservice to all others at your level who got there lawfully and who will also now face doubt.

Also, you did not just cheat in the contest; you proceeded to post and brag about the result on Linkedin as well, which raises suspicion over your "my intention …" statements. I also don't think subtle bragging with statements such as "I might have become an IM anyway"or "..shine again in the next ICPC just like I did in the past" is apt for the position you find yourself in. The curious of the bunch have already noticed your weird solving patterns in contests for over a year, which did not make sense. Now that you have come clean, you should mention all the CF contests you have cheated in before.

"I don't want to deny anything now, I have also asked for help during other contests in the past." Why didn't u give us the full list of contests u cheated in. Honestly this is a shit yt apology — "I might have become an IM anyway".What do u mean by this subtle flex. Imo u like flexing that ur better than everyone else and not problem solving. Cf is just a way for u to maintain ur ego that ur better than others and to further prove my point u brag a shit lot on x and li. U even bragged about getting rank 2 even though u cheated.

YouTube ahh apology. You should either screencast all contests you give or delete this account (Psychotic_D) and make a new account. Who knows you might cheat on your new account as well because this apology seems shallow.

One move can destroy everything i would rather have zero solves in contest than my reputation being damaged for life for one wrong move. It's that simple.

Here the damage has been done and can't be recovered so accept it considering the level at which you have done. For newbies, it's by lack of awareness but when experienced people do it it's a shame and it's been written in history.

If you feel you have made a mistake, then delete this account and create a new one. If you have the capability to be a CM, you may participate in at most 10 contests, which will take approximately a month. **** If you have any sense of shame, you should delete this account; otherwise, you know how much criticism you’re receiving from the entire nation. **** I think Mike should block your email to reduce the number of cheaters on this wonderful platform.

In a nutshell:

  1. He has a track record in cheating (point to be noted).
  2. He is a liar.
  3. He is a strategic cheater (as already proven).
  4. He is against cheaters (those who are not as strategic as him lol).
  5. He is untrustworthy to work with professionaly.
  6. Can't be trusted even if he makes any new account or reaches any new milestones.

This cheater accepted his fraudulent activities when his account was in the verge of getting banned. I offer no second chance to anyone who did cheating/fraud strategically and is a "fraud". For people like you in India, recruiters are doubting credibility of every CP'er and you are saying you have contributed to CP community (lol, there is no end to your hypocrisy), You ruined respect of each organizations you worked in as well as I wish you dare not to represent India in ICPC (that will be a shame for our country).

After all these successful investigations and numerous proofs of cheating, the only question I have is why this person is not permanently banned and deleted from Codeforces? More than that, not even removed from the contest standings! So, basically, he still holds the first place in Codeforces Round 960. He couldn't even avoid lying in this post about not seeing the problems beforehand. He is just pathetic and doesn't deserve to be a part of the competitive programming community.

that's the difference between chess and CP websites. If you are caught cheating in a chess game even once, your account is flagged for cheating and you are not allowed to take part in rated contests anymore. In CP,they just skip some solutions as if they would ever be able to detect the more sophisticated ways the cheater would use in the future
