I became pupil a few days back and now I am deathly afraid of falling down back to Newbie but at the same time I really want to give contest because i like it. How do i combat this?

The only way you reach Specialist is if you do more contests.

and what will happen if you fall to newbie? the worst thing that can happen is that you gain valuable experience, which can only be positive. it doesnt matter what the number on the screen is, as long as you are trying, and improving

If you fall back, then it just means that you still don't belong to the pupil region, i.e., you're still a newbie. you'll stay if you're really as skilled as a pupil guy.

I don't think that is proper analogy. You can still practice without ever failing. I will not participate until have CM performance for 5 contests in row. in this way you never fail but still improving

Bt you are failing right? I can give unrated cntsts until i get a gm level performance and then give cntst in this acc and get +rating here.. But that doesnt mean i have not fell or failed right? I already failed by giving unrated cntst and mostly likely getting lower level performance than i am currently at..If I consistently give rated contest and get +rating then that's not failing.. which is very unlikely to happen.. So i think the analogy is proper.

so you goal shouldn’t just be there Set your goal higher, like Master, and you will find that 1200 is just a small point on your way to progress. Than you may feel ok to continue contest maybe

Don't care about rating too much, it doesn't matter, the most important things are do you enjoy it or do you learn something from it.

I'd suggest that you should try solving from C, to B, to A. Nowadays, C's are pretty much solvable even for a Pupil. If you have AC on C, give the contest; otherwise, don't. Use an alt ID for this (against the rule, but ok if you only solve one problem with that ID per contest).

Well, his main motive is to give the contest without having the fear of losing the rating. Now, I would've suggested making an alt ID and giving a contest from that, but that would've been wrong. Solving from C->B->A actually will help him become a specialist because if you solve C, you'll most probably solve B and A, too.

Would'nt it be best to give contest as unrated in that case

Not always the unrated contest option is available. Why people even downvoting me tho?

if don't fell down you won't try to get up and try to practice . you should think in the this way when you fall down you need to fight back to your rate because if you can reach it once you can do it again also when you want to participate forget that there is rating try have fun and learn from your mistake and participate with your friends to became like racing because if you think about the rate you won't do your best in the contest and that's why the contest made for to show you best and don't try to participate from another (ID) .

its common thing at the beginning and even when you reach higher ratings You would feel afraid of losing the rating. I also feel the same.... so i have an alternate id .... i reached expert on my alternate id too... https://codeforces.net/profile/pranav_2005 so you can create an alternate id
