Is this results already after unfreeze?
I took the screenshot right after the end of the contest, however I can't guarantee these results are after the freeze (it wasn't clear).
Those are the results before the freeze (1h before the end of the contest). There were no significant changes in the ranking though, since usually in the last 2-3 hours it's often too risky to add anything to your solution and risk some fatal bugs. We definitely had fewer points less in the final standings. AFAIK, marek.cygan managed to climb back to 1st place in Wild wild space by some 0.1 pts or so. So now, we can officially say that we won each one of the problems :)
Congratulations for the win. Can you share your approaches for the problems?
In my team I worked on "Interstellar", but I was unbelievably unsuccessful in coming up with any competitive approaches :) I mainly tried to select a random subset of planets initially and focus on them (the hope was that the other players would be less likely to try to out-buy my shares on these planets). I selected these planets as disjoint collections of long-ish paths (with the condition that they had at least some minimal amount of local income). Then I would place my traders also on disjoint collections of paths, in a greedy manner (repeatedly selecting the path which gave the best output divided by the number of traders used in it — hopefully I implemented the formulas correctly, but I'm not 100% sure of this). I noticed that this strategy brought some strong starts in some of the games (on server 1 I could get even up to 15% of the total income in the first 50-100 turns, but I would drop to 3%-4% by the end), but was usually very poor on server 2. And I didn't have a good strategy in estimating if/when I should buy new shares (I would sometimes buy some shares which didn't bring enough benefit by the end, so buying them ended up being just a waste of money).
I was doing interstellar as well. I'm thinking about writing a short blog post + sharing my code (as usual). It's just that I have a very limited amount of time in April and it's very hard for me to squeeze those 2-3 hours in order to write it.
The quick short version is: You can quite easily estimate expected total income (i.e. till the end of the game) from any set of shares. It's less than 10 lines of code and it trivializes the decisions about buying shares.
I can also share my interstellar solution as well if anyone interested. I got 86.40.
I'm interested :) please, describe it.
