I had a very funny conversation with Merkurev few minutes ago. Apparently he needs help for testing some problems but unfortunately he is not using polygon for that. Moreover it seems he forgot at all how to use polygon (I must say myself Polygon UX is far from perfect, but you hardly forget once you use it).

Some of you may say this was scam Merkurev and not the real one, can you spot the definite clue the turn down his cover?

Spoiler

Anyway, beware of random guys in Discord reaching you.

I don't think rating is a feature for div1 contestants. Okay, div2 people could see its value as a bug...

Also, I went here expecting a roasting of Merkurev for some clumsy thing he did, not this.

Also also, Discord is ran by furries.

I had no idea what to expect, but I'm also disappointed. Scam is boring.

Btw, I registered on Codechef in 2016 :) One may check it with the list of teams in my profile there.

I meant to say, that haven't seen your name as tester or setter in recent codechef announcement here in CF.

I meant that scammer did one more checkable mistake, when wrote that he was registered on Codechef "about a year ago". For myself — I remember participating in Snackdown 2017 quite well.

You should let him believe you will help him, and then send him many WA solutions.

The first screenshot is enough. "question" instead of "problem" or "task" — Indian detected.

Ah, seriously? Are all spammers Indians?
We have a lot of idiots in India, that's true, but it's also true that we are the second most populous country in the world. Hence, like every other country, we tend to have some bad apples. Just that the "some" isn't actually a few people.
But this kind of generalization is very insulting, considering the fact that India is hell lot more than a few idiots.

Using "question" might imply non-Russian, but Indian? Don't non-Indians use "question"? Nice justification :)

Generalizations are not bad, being wrong is bad. If the guess was correct based on generalization (and it is correct in vast majority of cases), the generalization is actually good. This is basically what machine learning is made of – generalizations

Just now encountered in situation.
"The person" asked me to do tester of Topcoder Div2 Medium problem, but I know that I cannot do tester because I'm only 17 (TC only allows problem writing/testing for age 18 or above).

No, that's a perfect scambaiting opportunity

Next time someone tries this scam either go along yourself or pretend to involve others (create your own fake account with high rated user name) and make them suffer

Update: I scambaited him for a while. He sent me very easy coding exercises which he wanted me to solve for him (to test problems for a competition he was arranging). I sent him some slightly incorrect solutions. When I asked him why he was scamming people he told me that he was making a programming contest for his university and needed help writing solutions, however nobody would help him if he didn't pretend to be someone else. I told him to stop, because it's not ok to pretend to be someone else. I think he understood and I felt slightly bad for him so I wrote (correct) solutions for the rest of his problems.

Then he asked me for my paypal. He did say that they would pay me at the beginning of our conversation but I thought that was just part of the scam. I received about 12 USD a few days later.

Sometimes it is not about preparingprogramming competitions, but about interview questions, or university tests, or even ongoing competitions I presume. It is ok to help other people prepare their problem, but not that ok in the other contexts.

Uugh didn't think about that, but I'm pretty sure not. Some questions were about object orientation in Java and his coding problems were for example "print the sum of all numbers divisible by 3 or 4 in an array". I guess maybe it could have been some kind of interview maybe? I should have been more careful.
